“The Watchers were allegedly the first advanced species of the universe, committed to observing and compiling knowledge on all aspects of the universe without any interference. The original name for this race was the Luminous, but it has since been forgotten; they adopted the name “Watchers” after the task they perform.”
I remember when I was young, the whole “going to heaven vs going to hell” thing weighed heavy on me. It wasn’t that I was bad…. just had a very mischievous bent….. 🙂
But when words like “go away I never knew you” were being preached often, it was very scary for young children….
Luke 6: 46-48
21Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’
In any case, this added to the many evangelists stories at camp meeting etc, i felt so entangled in this whole life and death, heaven and hell thing, that when I read about the Watchers in my Marvel comics, I actually longed for a release from living in under that constant threat.
I see now that i am older, that this had become a fixation for me, and that it was not the central message…. but it was echoed by others who seemed very clear on how the life after death thing played out.
I later was freed from those boogeymen by an experience when I was in my mid twenties….
But that is another story…….
The concept of gathering data and not being entangled by it was one that i have found to be freeing and enlightening.
