There is more and more fighting in social media these days, everyone making fun of the other side, getting angrier and angrier.
This is one example of that type of issue, and some notes on the ONLY way to resolve these issues, without everyone losing their mind and their beliefs.
Yes, there is a way.
This example is the story of Noah and the Ark, which is in all 3 traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
So, is the Flood a FACT as the religionist people say, or a myth as the naysayers say.
Honestly, the facts are somewhere in the middle. The story of Gilgamesh also talks about the flood as do many ancient traditions (secular stories, totally outside of the biblical stories). Over time, the stories became a mixture of teaching, beliefs, and facts. The Biblical story tries to prove that all the living mammals and birds that lived through the flood were protected on a boat that God told Noah to build. It is a cautionary tale.
Currently, the conclusive fact is that as the last ice age receded, blockages of ice surrounding vast lakes broke, and let floods of water come down in a matter of minutes, hours, days, months. There is plenty of archaeological proof of floods all over the world.
These memories get mixed with moralistic stories, and “how we came to have a rainbow” type tales.
The problem we have here, is the Mexican standoff of Literalist religion, and secular modern science. Fault lays on both sides.
Both sides feel threatened by each other, and it forms a tug of war between the two sides, both exaggerating their positions, and poohooing the other sides facts. This type of tug of war doesn’t solve anything.
Literalist Christians hold the stories to be absolutely true, because to admit to those stories being a mixture of facts is a slippery slope to them. (yes there are facts there)
Modern Science exaggerates their certainty of what they know….. in fact both sides do this.
(we must be understanding of others who don’t think the same way as we do….. that is what it means to be human)
The greatest issue in most religions, is their belief in an entity called Evil… personified by their boogeyman. (Even Hollywood uses this to sell movies)
Any shift away from their literalist position is seen to be Satan tricking them away from the truth.
This SHOULD NOT be laughed at….. we all have our boogeymen!!! It is a part of our survival instinct.
The fact is, that what we call evil, DOES exist in the minds of humans, and allows us to do unthinkable things to our enemies….. but it DOES NOT exist in the universe…. we mistake entropy and happenings we don’t like, for this entity of EVIL.
THE ONLY WAY to find peace, is to stop laughing at each other, and find a way of having REAL DIALOGUE.
Actually, this i road is NOT impassible, but our way of disrespecting each others beliefs will not lead to anything good.🤠🪶
