Balance vs. lack of balance

Why is our world so unbalanced? Hmm….

A study was done where individuals were put in a room with nothing in it, they were left there for 15 minutes, to see if they could just sit quietly and enjoy that quietness. Virtually no one was comfortable doing that, they looked for ways to fill their attention. Why? For starters, we are either centered in our body/mind, or we are grasping outwards for things and attention.

In our modern world, it seems that we all spend a lot of time trying get attention, and to be noticed by other people. Social media puts this urge on steroids. Life, our social group, and vendors all push our attention towards the things outside us, and then fill us with the idea that we need those things, or that we must have the things that others have. It fills us with the general sense of need… which in fact is an attitude of neediness.

None of these things are a healthy way to live our moment to moment lives.

In the process of filling our mind with our need for things outside us, our inner life is ignored, and becomes frail and undernourished.

This is why practicing centeredness is so important.

Simply bringing our attention to our body, here and now, brings strength, focus and stability.

We work from this center point.

Life tries to pull us out of this center point, and does its best to keep us in an unbalanced state, where we have a constant need of things outside our center of body/mind.
