Many of the problems in the cost of building have been created by the endless regulations coming from government agencies. Ask any builder what has caused the rise of prices since 2012 (and before). It is primarily govt regulations, and materials suppliers who take advantage of those regulations to raise prices.
Of course, there is also supply issues, but those usually relate back to govt BS as well.
Add to that the rising expectations of people, needing this, needing that… and coming up with excuses about all the stuff they need …. (see the expectations of young folks vs. the young folks in the 50’s)
Add to that, the real estate marketers taking advantage of supply and demand, and crazy urban lot prices, and voila.
In fact…. a full time sitting govt, that sits in the office, looking for excuses to raise their budget for the next fiscal year, will ALWAYS come up with new rules and regulations. (Otherwise we might find out that their positions are unnecessary from the beginning)
NO? …. Have you ever seen a regulation that got deleted because it was no longer required? Point made.
There is another layer of totally unneeded regulations that just came out in B.C….. which will raise the prices even higher.
It will NOT be an easy fix.
