Peeling the Onion – Part 2 Returning to Zero, being the peeling off of our Layer of assumptions

If we are interested in knowing what our un-impacted direct sensory experiencing is telling us, we will have to peel off the layers of assumptions and verbal interpretations that we work from subconsciously: Returning to a place of, as few assumptions as possible… which I like to call Zero.

Of course, there are not that many folks who wish to spend their valuable time peeling this down to where it can be seen clearly. That is also a completely reasonable point of view for them.

But then there are some of us who just can’t live with the incompatibility of our beliefs and reality. Perhaps we are just the neurotic folks….. (said in jest of course 🙂 )…..

This stripping off of the “verbal noise” caused by our cognitive dissonance, can only be accomplished by some form of inner contemplation practice, where gradually, the verbal noise drops off, and the image mind takes over from the verbal mind‘s interpretations.
When this happens, the control center for our thoughts and actions which is based on assumptions, quiets down, and our direct sensory experiencing shifts to the foreground.

With this shift, the noise rising from our life circumstances, and our assumptions about how to act/react, fall away, and we find ourselves in a “quiet space” where the 5 senses are speaking directly to us.

Normally, it takes approximately 30 minutes of quiet solitude, for the mind to begin letting go of these assumptions and verbal chatter.

For those who wish to find this quiet place, the path is very beneficial. But many of the folks I know, see the practice as difficult at best, and impossible to practice, at the worst. I do believe that this is due to a misunderstanding on their part, but it is everyone’s prerogative to choose how to live life.

This “returning to a zero place of assumptions” is where we can see things for what they are, without the layers of beliefs.

This is not to say that there is anything wrong with having beliefs, but that if a person wants to know what their direct experiencing is telling them, this is the way to find out.

Why I chose this path

When I was young, I noticed how so many folks with many varying beliefs, thought that what they believed was right, and that they alone were right, based on their scriptures. I did not see any objective way for them all to be right.
After investigating this for many years, I felt that this was not a solid way to find truth.

When I realized that the only truth that is attainable by a person, is seeing Reality clearly, I chose this route, which has been a dependable route for many thousands of years.

In the years since then, many of the folks from my upbringing warned me that the way I had chosen was not going to lead me to a good place.

It has not been an easy road, but the sense of being solidly rooted in Reality has been a constant presence in my life, and I would not trade it for anything.
