How to Practice

Why do good people sometimes go off track and shock us?

Alot of folks wonder how a person who seemed to be of good character can do things that harm other people, or act in a manner that destroys their reputation.

Especially when they start out with good moral character.

It is because we all have a good side that we portray to others, but the flip side is that if we get in a position of power, our desires can take control, and we start to take advantage. This position of power can take all sorts of shapes and forms. It is not so much a moral failing, as it is succumbing to our position and taking advantage of it.

This does not excuse the person who allows themselves to do this…. but it is certainly something that people in power MUST recognize as a creeping slippery slope due to their position.

We see this often in leaders in govt, actors, famous folks of all kinds.

When we put them up on a pedestal, we forget the one rule that almost always is true: power and fame corrupt.

This is why people in power over a long term, become corrupted more and more over time.

That is truth.

no matter who.

We shouldn’t be shocked when this happens, it is as much about us putting them up on a pedestal as it is about them falling off of it.

Even looking at the caring that a street person has for his fellow mates, and the lack of caring that folks with money or power show.

Someone who originally had no money often forgets those persons once they start to climb the ladder…. this is simply “forgetting where they came from”… same thing… different name.
