The identity that we have built is the story we have built to make ourselves “important” to others. It is like our fort.
Self -inquiry can help us to work through this, and in the end, be able to let go of the way we say “I am this” and “I am that” to the world around us.
This narrative we have built – our fort, protects us, but also insulates us from the simple reality that we live in.
The stronger the fort, the more we distance ourselves from “The Way Things Are.” The further we distance ourselves from the way things are, the deeper the ruminative loop takes us into darkness.
