Why do we need intoxicants?

I really do understand that intoxicating substances are something that people can feel its their right to use, but my question is, why do we think that we need them? Is life not good enough for us, that we need a “boost” to get thru the day? Is boredom the dominant factor in our lives? Do we need some “pixeydust” to make our lives sparkly? Isn’t that what “dis-satisfaction with the way things are” means? Shouldn’t we be reaching for the highest standard of living? Interested to see the reactions to what I have written here…… (I know all the blab about the human body having receptors…. blah blah blah) Just asking. We were made (or evolved, if that turns your crank) to find fullness in our natural person. Is life only bearable while being on one substance or another? I am talking about substances that alter our sense of life……
